Gerald McClain, a member of the Lycoming Law Association died in 1995.

RESOLUTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE

TO THE HONORABLE JUDGES OF THE COURT:

The Committee appointed by your Honorable Court to prepare Resolutions concerning the death of Gerald M. McClain, Esquire reports as follows:

Gerald Mark McClain was born November 11, 1948, in Crabtree, Pennsylvania, the only child of Kenneth and Louise Corleto McClain.

Following his graduation from St. Vincent Preparatory School in 1966, Jerry attended the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, he majored in pre-law and sociology with minors in psychology, French, and math. Jerry also entered the Air Force ROTC Program. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in April, 1970.

In 1970, Jerry became a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force and served as Judge Adjunct General from November, 1972, until his Honorable Discharge in June, 1980.

Jerry received his Juris Doctor degree from Ohio State College of Law in December, 1972. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in the Spring of 1973.

From 1974 to 1976, Jerry worked as law clerk for the Honorable James Kelley, currently a Commonwealth Court Judge. Judge Kelley served as a State Senator from 1974 to 1988. Jerry served as his Senatorial election campaign Treasurer in 1975.

During the same time period, Jerry was also employed as a part-time Westmoreland County Assistant Public Defender.  In 1975, Jerry opened his own law practice in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, maintaining the practice until 1978. He then became managing partner in the law firm of Selkowitz, McClain, and McKee, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. During his years with the firm, Jerry served as part-time Hearing Master and Chancellor in Westmoreland and Allegheny counties. Jerry remained with the firm until 1987.

From 1981 to 1986, Jerry also was an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hill College. He designed and taught two courses in business law and labor-management relations. The courses were approved and selected as requirements for undergraduate degrees from Seton Hill.

In December 1987, Jerry returned to his earlier practice of law, when he accepted a full time Assistant Public Defender position in Lycoming County. He never viewed the position as a step down. Jerry served his indigent clients well until 1991 when he accepted the position as Lycoming County Family Court Hearing Master, replacing George Price, Esquire. He remained in that position for the balance of his professional career.

Surviving are his paternal grandmother, Christine McClain, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, his parents, Kenneth and Louise, of Crabtree, his son Sean of Linden, Pennsylvania, his daughter, Ryann of Greensburg and many friends.

Ryann is currently a senior honors student at Greensburg-Salem High School. Sean is completing his senior year at St. Vincent College, majoring in accounting and economics carrying a Grade Point Average of 3.92.

Jerry McClain was a man of incredible strength and exemplary character. He was a devoted son, a dedicated father, a loyal friend. Although many of his achievements were accomplished outside of Lycoming County, his standard of excellence and his determination followed him to Williamsport. All who knew him have lost a compassionate, caring and humorous friend who lived his life, even in the final months, with unsurpassed grace and dignity.

BE IT RESOLVED, that in the passing of Gerald M. McClain, there has been a great loss to the Bar of Lycoming County of an outstanding member who stood for the highest principles of the legal profession, a great loss to his family of a loving grandson, son, father, a great loss to his friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the records of this court, and that copies of the same be sent to his parents, his son, and his daughter.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this court and its Bar do hereby extend to his parents, Kenneth and Louise, his children, Sean and Ryann, and his grandmother, Christine, a deep and heartfelt expression of sympathy.

ORDER OF COURT

AND NOW, this 11th day of August, 1995, in consideration of the Resolutions presented by the Committee appointed to draft Resolutions in the death of Gerald M. McClain, Esquire, the said Resolutions are adopted and it is hereby ORDERED and DECREED that the Resolutions herewith submitted and attached be adopted as an official expression of the Lycoming County Bar Association and this Court; and that the same be spread upon the records of the Court; and that copies of this Resolution be delivered to the children and parents of Gerald M. McClain, Esquire; and it is further ORDERED and DIRECTED that said Resolutions be entered at large upon the record of the Court, and that it be printed in the Lycoming Reporter.
