George Robert Price, a former member of the Lycoming Law Association, died on April 10, 1997.

He was remembered in a memorial service that took place in the Court of Common Pleas of Lycoming Coiunty on April 18, 1997.

IN RE: Appointment of a Committee to draft Resolution in the death of GEORGE R. PRICE, JR, ESQUIRE

RESOLUTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE

TO THE HONORABLE JUDGES OF THE COURT:

The Committee appointed by your Honorable Court to prepare Resolutions concerning the death of George R. Price, Jr. reports as follows:

George R. Price, Jr. was born on August 30, 1947. He was the son of George R. Price, Sr. and Ethel Herr Price.

Following his graduation from Bangor High School in 1965, he began his undergraduate studies at Elizabethtown College, graduating in 1969. During college he was an exchange student at the University of Ghana in West Africa. Prior to law school, he worked for the Department of Public Welfare for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1972 he enrolled at the Marshall Wythe Law School at the College of William and Mary, receiving his J.D. in 1975.

He began his law career with the firm of Turtzo, Spry, Powlette & Sbrocchi in Bangor, Pennsylvania. where he worked from early 1976 until 1978. In 1978 he joined the offices of Susquehanna Legal Services, where he worked until 1981. He served as a staff attorney and managing attorney during his tenure with Legal Services.

From 1981 until 1991 he was the first full-time Family Court Hearing Officer for the courts of Lycoming County. In 1991 he became a member of the firm of Murphy, Butterfield, Holland & Price. Because of his illness, he left the firm in December of 1995 and relocated to Orono, Maine.

He was a member of the Lycoming Law Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He was cited by the Lycoming Law Association and given the 1994 Equal Access to Justice Award. The Pennsylvania Bar Association cited him in Recognition of Outstanding Contributions to Pro Bono Services in Pennsylvania for 1994-1995.

While in Williamsport, he was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he served as a board member, secretary of the church board, and a warden of the church. He was active in the community serving as Chairperson of Step and serving on the Board of The Transitional Living Center.

His law practice was of a general nature during his early years as an attorney. Subsequent to serving as the full-time Family Court Hearing Officer in Lycoming County, he developed a specialty in family law while practicing with Murphy, Butterfield, Holland & Price.

George R. Price; Jr., died on April 10, 1997 after a courageous struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

He is survived by his wife, Lois Price; a step-son, Chad Pinches, of Orono, Maine; a step-daughter, Cynthia Pinches; a sister, Patricia Transeau, of Bangor, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Dana Price, of Nazareth, Pennsylvania; three nephews, Lee, Bradley, and Timothy; and two nieces, Abbie and Laurie. He was predeceased by his brother, Larry. George R. Price, Jr. was a respected member of the Bar of Lycoming County. He had a judicious temperament and a compassion for people that made him exceptionally well qualified for the role of Family Court Hearing Officer. He enjoyed life and he enjoyed his friends. His dry wit was a legend. He was in every way a good person and an inspiration to all who knew him.

His family has lost a loved and loving husband, step-father, brother, and uncle, and society has lost an effective and contributing member.

Your committee recommends the adoption of the following resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED that in the passing of George R. Price, Jr. there has been a loss to he of Lycoming County of an able and conscientious member who practiced and upheld the highest traditions of the legal profession, a loss to the community of a valued civic leader, a loss to his family of a kind and loving husband, step-father, brother and uncle, and a loss to his friends and acquaintances of a truly caring person.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Court and this Bar do hereby extend to his widow, his step-children, his sister, his sister-in-law, and his nephews and nieces a deep and heartfelt expression of sympathy by this Resolution.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Resolution be spread at length upon the Minutes of the Court of Common Pleas of Lycoming County, and that copies of same be sent to his widow and relatives.

ORDER OF COURT

AND NOW, THIS 18th day of April, 1997, in consideration the Resolutions presented by the Committee appointed to draft Resolutions in the death of George R. Price, Jr., Esquire, the said Resolutions are adopted and it is hereby ORDERED and DECREED that the Resolutions herewith submitted and attached be adopted as an official expression of the Lycoming County Bar Association and this Court; and that the same be spread upon the records of the Court; and that copies of this Resolution be delivered to the widow and stepchildren of George R. Price, Esquire; and it is further ORDERED and DIRECTED that said Resolutions be entered at large and upon the record of the Court, and that it be printed in the Lycoming Reporter.
