Greevy named Olympic committee volunteer shooting coach of the year

A shotgun instructor and coach of youths on three national teams, Lester L. “Bud” Greevy has been selected by the United States Olympic Committee as Shootings Volunteer Coach of the Year for 2004.
Greevy a local attorney who loves shooting sports, coaches area young people on the U.S. National Team, the National Development Team and the U.S. Junior Olympics Team. He has coached on the national level since 2001 as a volunteer and has coached the National Rifle Association’s Advanced Junior Shotgun Camp held near Muncy Valley.
“I’m very honored by this award,” Greevy said. “I shot all my life and as a result of injuries, my competition days are over, so I coach.”
Greevy was nominated by H.G. Moody, the national coach trainer. Greevy received a notification letter from the USOC this past week, a the distinction.
He said he is among 1,600 certified volunteer coaches in shooting sports who were eligible for the award. Greevy is one of four people on the National Development Team coaching staff.
In 2004, some of Greevy’s junior students were selected to participate in the World Cup Americana Brazil. In the National Shotgun Championships, his students won first place in several classes in double trapshooting competition, as well as third place in the open category. They also earned the men’s gold, silver and bronze medals in double trap and gold in women’s trap in Junior Olympic competition.
His students include Josh Richmond of Forksville, who is on the U.S. National Team, along with one adult shooter he coaches. On the National Development Team, he coaches Greg Patton of Eldred Township, Corey Sidorek of Dallas., Lindsey Arnold of Rome and Matt Drexier of Missouri.
On the U.S. Junior Olympic team, Greevy coaches Molly Bender of Loyalsockville, Sam Lutz of Allentown, Jack Aldredge of Ardmore and Charles Ziegler of York.
Greevy is also a certified NRA instructor and training counselor and is a national advanced shotgun instructor for 4-H.
