LLA Receives County Bar Recognition Award

HARRISBURG (Feb. 24, 2012) - The Pennsylvania Bar Association presented County Bar Recognition Awards during the 46th Annual Seminar of the Conference of County Bar Leaders, Feb. 23 - 25, at the Marriott Lancaster at Penn Square, Lancaster. Twenty-five local bar associations in Pennsylvania were honored this year for sponsoring projects that improve the legal profession, justice system and community. The awards, which are non-competitive in nature, are presented annually by the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

"The willingness of lawyers to step forward and voluntarily lead and participate in projects and programs that improve our communities and our legal system should be recognized," said PBA President Matthew J. Creme Jr. "Through these awards, we shine a little light on their good efforts."

The Lycoming Law Association received an award for three notable projects and programs:

  • Development of Family Law Committee. The Association has implemented a substantive law committee for family law. The Association recognized the need for such a committee and a county judge helped the association establish the group.
  • The Commonwealth Court event. Eight Commonwealth Court judges, including Williamsport-native Judge Kevin Brobson, gathered for events in Williamsport last September. The association organized a trolley tour of Williamsport and hosted a cocktail party and banquet for the judges. The Pennsylvania Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division held a breakfast for the judges and Zone 4 young lawyers the following morning. At the conclusion of the breakfast, three judges sat en banc during a special session at the Lycoming County Courthouse, a first in the county's history.
  • Flood relief matching fund drive. The association held a fundraising drive to benefit county residents who were victims of last September's Tropical Storm Lee flooding. Association members and friends donated $3,270, which the Association then matched, resulting in a $6,540 donation to the Red Cross.
