Greevy Recognized for Community Service

Receives "William E. Nichols Community Service Award"

The Lycoming Law Association took time to recognize the community service accomplishments of one of its own, at the 2014 annual banquet.  Long-time member Charles F. Greevy, III, was awarded the third annual "William E. Nichols Community Service Award."

C. Edward Mitchell presented the award, which was established in 2012 to recognize outstanding commitment to community service beyond the practice of law by a member of the Lycoming Law Association.  The award comes with a $1000 prize - that the award recipient designates for the benefit of a local charity.

In making his presentation, Ed Mitchell highlighted the extensive and long term commitment of Skip Greevy to public service in his community:

• He has been a faculty member and presenter at more than 20 statewide and local seminars, conferences and training sessions for both lawyers and non-lawyers.
• For over 35 years Skip Greevy has helped the foster families and foster children in Lycoming County and the surrounding counties by providing training, instruction and advice to case workers and foster parents. In recognition, he was selected in 2003 as the Community Support Person of the year by the Pennsylvania State Foster Parent Association. The following year he received the Services and Recognition Award from the National Foster Parent Association.
• He served on the Ad Hoc Legislative Committee which drafted the Pennsylvania Legislation for the Adoption and Safe Families Act. He then participated in a panel to train Pennsylvania juvenile Court Judges on the implementation of the Act.
• He has been a Charter Member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Multi-Disciplinary Team for Child Abuse/Neglect in Lycoming County. He is currently a member of the Lycoming County Children’s Permanency Round Table Advisory Counsel and the Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition.
• He has been a member of the Board of directors of the Harry Plankenhorn Foundation for 30 years and President for 22 years. The Plankenhorn Foundation focuses on the needs of community non-profit organizations which benefit children and their families.
• The Recipient has been an active member of the Williamsport Kiwanis Club for 33 years and served on it’s Board of Directors and as it’s President and also as a Division Lieutenant Governor.
• He has served on the Boards of the Northcentral PA Dialysis Foundation, the Williamsport YMCA, the Northcentral Sight Services including being President, the Lycoming County Mediation Panel and the Sun Home Health Services, Inc. Advisory Board.
• He has had leadership positions on fund drives for the James V. Brown Library, the YMCA, the Heart Association, the Arthritis Foundation and the Lycoming United Way.
• This award is for community service outside of the practice of law, but it needs to be mentioned that the recipient has successfully argued landmark cases in the field of Children and Youth before both the Pennsylvania and United States Supreme Courts.
• He has served the Lycoming Law Association as President, has served Zone 4 of the Pennsylvania Bar Association as both a Member of the House of Delegates and Zone Governor. He has been a member of the Inns of Court since it’s origin.
•  Personally, I have known him for many years in many different capacities. He deserves this award because of what he does and how he does it. He quietly serves the community without claiming recognition for his service.
