Judge Gardner Portrait Unveiled
The official portrait of Judge Ryan Coffman Gardner was recently unveiled, and placed in the Lycoming County Courthouse. The portrait resides with the portraits of all other active and senior judges, in the jury assembly room.
The Lycoming Law Association has been the moving force in creating and preserving judicial portraits of every judge who on the bench in the 29th Judicial District. Some of the early portraits were given to the Association by family members of deceased judges. Recently, the membership has sponsored the professional photographing of our judges.
For many decades, the portraits of County judges hung in Courtroom #1 in the 1860 courthouse. When the old courthouse was demolished in 1969, the portraits were conveyed to the Lycoming County Historical Museum, where they languished in storage, due to lack of display space. In the early 1980's the portraits were returned to the courthouse, where they were, again, stored until they were rehung in the jury lounge in the 1990s. The older portraits that are not displayed in the courthouse are on the walls of the Association's office suite.
