Law Association Members Serve as Mock Trial Jurors

Mock TrialOne of the largest in the nation, the PBA/YLD Mock Trial Competition gives over 290 high school student teams from across the state the opportunity to act as lawyers and witnesses in simulated civil trials before actual judges and panels of juries. Lawyers volunteer to assist students as team advisors, scorekeepers, jurors, judges and regional coordinators. Each year, the winning team goes on to represent Pennsylvania in the national competition.

The Northcentral Region, district play-off competition took place in Williamsport on March 4, 2025. Volunteers are essential to the success of the competition, and this year District Court President Judge Matthew Brann served as judge for the competition. The volunteer jury was composed of local attorneys, including a number of members of the Lycoming Law Association.

This year's case dealt with a claim of theft and deception. At the end, one of the schools was declared the victor, although the tally was not made official until after the teams and jurors left the Federal Courthouse. The talent of the teams was certainly on display during the mock trial.
