Matt Diemer Receives Wood Award
The recipient of the 2024 Thomas Wood, Jr. Equal Access to Justice Award is Matt Diemer. In announcing the award, John Pietrovito made the following comments:
Each year, the Law Association gives the Thomas Wood, Jr. Equal Access to Justice Award to a member who has gone above and beyond to donate their time, knowledge and skill to represent poor people in Lycoming County, pro bono.
The recipient of this year’s award is Matt Diemer. It’s hard to believe that Matt just passed the bar in 2020. He has been a constant presence in the Lycoming County Courthouse, and in fact, was a certified legal intern in the Public Defender’s Office before graduating. Since passing the bar, Matt has taken 24 pro bono cases referred by North Penn Legal Services. He often volunteers to take more than one case on the same day, when there is no one else available. His pro bono clients tell us that he fights hard for them and makes them feel heard, both in and outside of the courtroom. In his private practice and pro bono work, he has developed expertise in abuse cases and was selected by the Law Association to serve on the Bench/Bar Committee, in relation to that area of the law, beginning in 2024.
Matt works at Campana, Hoffa & Morrone, where his practice is primarily Criminal Defense, and during his short career, he has accepted some of the most difficult, high-profile cases. He also handles a variety of family law matters and serves as a court-appointed guardian ad litem in custody cases. Matt teaches classes as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Lycoming College.
We are grateful to Matt for his willingness to accept a challenge and for all of the time and effort he has devoted to serving the people of Lycoming County.
Matt was also awarded a Pennsylvania Bar Association pro bono award by David K.Trevaskis, Esq., the PBA Pro Bono Coordinator. PBA Executive Director Matt Holliday and Assistant Executive Director William R. Christman III were present for the award.
