Montoursville Mock Trial Team Receives LLA Foundation Grant

The Lycoming Law Association has had a long tradition of encouraging local high schools to participate in the YLD Mock Trial Program. For most of the recent years, Montoursville High School has fielded a very successful Mock Trial team.
At the present time, Montoursville has the only active program in Lycoming County. The team has successfully competed in the YLD program as well as other statewide and national mock trial programs.

The team has worked together to prepare for upcoming competition. One way that the team has prepared is by attending a weekend long workshop offered by Harvard.

Of course, training is expensive, so to help defray tuition fees and hotel expenses, the team applied for an LLA Foundation grant. After careful consideration the grant was awarded and $1500.00 was awarded to the team. A ceremonial passing of the check took place on December 2, 2016, in the Lycoming County Courthouse. Several members of the team were on hand to receive the check from LLA representatives.

The mock trial program is one way that Association reaches out to the community to improve the image of the bar. Through the program, young people are taught the importance of the rule of law and encouraged to consider the law as a career. The Foundation is proud to participate in this outreach to the youth of the community.
