LLA Presented With County Bar Recognition Awards

The Pennsylvania Bar Association presented three County Bar Recognition Awards to the Lycoming Law Association during the 48th Annual Seminar of the Conference of County Bar Leaders, Feb. 27 - March 1, at The Nittany Lion Inn, State College.

Recognized for its Law Day 2013 activities, its pro bono participation and its U.S. Supreme Court admission ceremony for local lawyers, the Lycoming Law Association is one of 25 local bar associations in Pennsylvania honored this year for sponsoring projects that improve the legal profession, justice system or community. The awards are presented annually by the PBA.

"Our communities and legal professionals benefit greatly from the thousands of voluntary hours that hardworking lawyers invest each year into local programs and services," said Forest N. Myers. ''We are proud to acknowledge their efforts and encourage even more legal professionals to take part in the ongoing good works of the organized bar."

During 2013, the association held its annual Law Day Art and Essay Contest for all students in the county and used its Law Day event to recognize the contest winners and also to acknowledge Lycoming County mock trial winners.

The association continues to excel in its level of pro bono participation by its members. In 2013, the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network's Excellence Award was presented to the association and the Lycoming Law Association Foundation "in recognition of outstanding commitment to equal justice for those who have nowhere else to turn."

During November 2013, the association traveled to Washington, D.C. for a U.S. Supreme Court admission ceremony for eight Lycoming County lawyers and two Columbia County lawyers. A reception was held at the Hyatt on Capitol Hill the night before the ceremony and attendees also had breakfast at the Supreme Court before the ceremony.

The Conference of County Bar Leaders, whose membership includes leaders from county bar associations throughout the state and from the PBA, organizes a yearly educational conference focusing on the exchange of innovative bar association projects and ideas and on the development of mutually beneficial relationships among bar leaders that improve the legal profession.

Founded in 1895, the PBA strives to promote justice, professional excellence and respect for the law; improve public understanding of the legal system; facilitate access to legal services; and serve the 27,000 lawyers who are members of the association.
